Guy Lombardo's Tempo VII Hydroplane  ?

Guy Lombardo's multiple-award-winning Tempo VII hydroplane, built in 1955 and powered by an Allison aircraft engine, has been owned by the City of London since 1983 when it was donated to the City by the late Colonel Tom Lawson.

It is currently on display at London's Jet Aircraft Museum along with the Miss Supertest III hydroplane, immediately northwest of the London International Airport. It is open Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm.

Contact London's heritage planner Don Menard (dmenardATlondon.ca) if you or your organization are interested in displaying the Tempo VII in a public setting for a special short-term event.

LOMBARDO TRIVIA: London-born-and-raised bandleader Guy Lombardo (June 19, 1902- Nov. 5, 1977) never travelled across the bridge named in his honour in London, Ontario, since the bridge never officially opened until Nov. 16, 1978, more than a year after his death.

Guy Lombardo (1902-1977) with his younger sister, Rosemarie Lombardo (1925-2011) in the 1940s. Guy and his brothers in the orchestra actually named their sister Rosemarie, who was born 23 years after Guy.

Mayor welcomes new economic development agency

LONDON MAYOR ANNE MARIE DECICCO-BEST today welcomed the creation of a new economic development agency for Southern Ontario.

“I am pleased the federal government has recognized the distinct needs and economic realities of our region,” Mayor DeCicco-Best said.

‘We look forward to working with the new agency and our partners in the South West Economic Alliance to ensure London’s priorities are top of mind and well funded.”

Prime Minister Stephen Harper officially launched the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) today to be located in the Kitchener-Waterloo Region.

The Prime Minister also announced that Minister of State (Science and Technology) Gary Goodyear will assume responsibility for the agency and that B.A. Archibald has been appointed agency president. In the coming weeks, Minister of State Goodyear will embark on a major tour of Southern Ontario to engage workers, businesses and community leaders.

FedDev Ontario will support restructuring, community and business development, innovation and commercialization initiatives as well as other measures to promote economic diversification. It builds on the significant investments already being implemented through Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

THE MEDICENTRES CLINIC, in conjunction with the City of London, is pleased to announce that two family doctors have relocated their practice to London and are now registering new patients.

Dr. Robert Carter and Dr Katherine Yvonne MacDonald are Canadian medical graduates with special certification in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

They have several years' experience in family practice.

Londoners who need a family physician can obtain a registration form at the front reception area of the doctors' practice location:

Medicentre (Rexall Building)
611 Wonderland Road North (the old Herbie's discount store south of Oxford Street West)
London ON N6H 4V6
Phone: 519 471-6686
Fax: 519 471-2801

“We’re very pleased that physicians Carter and MacDonald have chosen London," says Brian Tibbet, Family Doctor Recruitment Specialist, City of London.

"This important additional practice, coupled with several others announced in recent years, indicates we are succeeding in the recruitment of family doctors to our community and these efforts will continue."
