Guy Lombardo's Tempo VII Hydroplane  ?

Guy Lombardo's multiple-award-winning Tempo VII hydroplane, built in 1955 and powered by an Allison aircraft engine, has been owned by the City of London since 1983 when it was donated to the City by the late Colonel Tom Lawson.

It is currently on display at London's Jet Aircraft Museum along with the Miss Supertest III hydroplane, immediately northwest of the London International Airport. It is open Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm.

Contact London's heritage planner Don Menard (dmenardATlondon.ca) if you or your organization are interested in displaying the Tempo VII in a public setting for a special short-term event.

LOMBARDO TRIVIA: London-born-and-raised bandleader Guy Lombardo (June 19, 1902- Nov. 5, 1977) never travelled across the bridge named in his honour in London, Ontario, since the bridge never officially opened until Nov. 16, 1978, more than a year after his death.

Guy Lombardo (1902-1977) with his younger sister, Rosemarie Lombardo (1925-2011) in the 1940s. Guy and his brothers in the orchestra actually named their sister Rosemarie, who was born 23 years after Guy.

In regard to the ongoing discussions about changing the words to "Oh Canada" to make it gender neutral.

It was changed in the 20's to placate the conscriptionists who were attempting to impose the draft on all fit and able bodied young men, not to discredit women.

If we want to ditch the Olde English, the proper translation would be "true patriot love from all of us command". Just sing it that way.

We don't need the governor-general's permission.
We certainly don't need a committee appointed to sit around in an expensive hotel or office eating caviar and getting paid honourariums that make minimum wage look like spare change.

"The earlier version of the anthem, written in 1908 by Robert Stanley Weir, read: "true patriot love thou dost in us command."

I heard most of a story on last night's news this morning, that the Bog might have coyotes in it. A recent? (not sure) count of the deer population in the Bog had shown that a herd of 30 had been decimated to only 4 deer in the Bog now.

If this is true, and there are NOW coyotes in the bog, my burning question iS: HOW DID THEY GET THERE? There hasn't been coyotes in this region in such large numbers as far back as I can remember.

Now, last year sometime, I had heard that coyotes had been seen on the outskirts of the city in the northwest area, near to where the Hunt Club is situated.
Just a few days ago, a coyote was seen on the UWO campus.

So, what I want to know is... Who was the 'bright bulb' who decided to get rid of the deer in the Bog by introducing coyotes?? Didn't ayone tell you that they a really dangerous creatures, to humans as well as deer??

And, did you know a little known factoid? Which is this:

NOrmally coyotes produce litters ot 2 or 3 pups. But, when their species is threatened in any way as to a loss of numbers, they start to produce much larger litters, in the neighbourhood of 8 to 10 pups. Isn't that just great!

Now, its not just the deer that have to worry, but the human race and its pets as well. Bravo bright bulb.

Some time ago, I remember hearing about coyotes that were introduced into the Pinery near Grand Bend. I don't know if it was the MNR who did it or not.

But, to answer you Question Sapphire about how the coyotes got into the Bog, if they are indeed there.... It is possible that the coyotes may have migrated from the Pinery area to the London outskirts over time. I too, share your concern about the coyotes. They can very dangerous to humans as well as other animals. Perhaps a study by the Upper Thames should be undertaken to better determine how they got here, how many there might be, and what danger they may pose to residents and pets alike across the city.

After all, the Westiminister Ponds area is only a hop, skip and a jump away from the Sifton Bog and there are a lot of deer there too, as I recall.

I may be acting a little hysterical about this, but, what if there really is a threat to human life now in the city from coyotes. Especially for small public school age children who go on school trips to the Sifton Bog?

It should also be pointed out that there are a least two public schools in the area close to the Sifton Bog that I know of.

Also, what if the coyotes really are spreading out across the city by way of the natural wooded areas, CN corriders and trail systems in search of prey? What if anything can be done to stop it even now?

Personally, I think this is a very serious problem and one that needs to be addressed quickly before someone gets badly hurt or killed.

In closing, I'd like to add this final comment:
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd have to say that a coyote threat to human life in the city FAR OUTWEIGHS the threat of deer in the Bog spreading buckthorn everywhere and eating people's prized, expensive shrubs and flowers, wouldn't you agree? So much for the "balance of nature" idea. Perhaps they should have left well enough alone. Next, they'll be telling us the poor deer are responsible for the coyote infestation in and around the city!

I think they are wolves, just doing their job, following their instincts, culling the herd, taking down the weak ones. I'm not afraid of wolves.
Coyotes on the other hand I wouldn't trust with a ten foot pole.

It's time to stop the guessing games and look into the matter, pronto. It's also time to stop 'sugarcoating the issue' by those in the know who are aware of the possible dangers that may exist for the general population in and around the city.

If it was indeed coyotes that took down a fullgrown deer in the Bog, then the alarm bells should be ringing big time, instead of a 'coverup' of the facts.

I hope the media will continue to follow up on this and begin asking some questions from public officials who may know what is going on. (Think MNR and Upper Thames Conservation Authority) And, if officials don't know what's going on, then they should bloody well find out fast. The soon the better, in my opinion.

I have faith our media hounds will be the ones to sniff out the facts but do we have an editor that will allow the truth of the matter to be told without sugar coating it over...calling wolves, coyotes when they encrouch on peoples backyards, and no doubt calling the coyotes stray dogs when they maul a child that tries to pet them...and even then is there a publisher that'll agree to print the story? Maybe, if they can sell a full page ad to a pet cemetary.

I heard something rather interesting today while getting my Timmy's coffee in Bryon. I overheard two people talking about the recent deer story that appeared in the newspaper and on the TV news.

One person was saying to the other, "Yeah, I find it hard to believe that less than 6 months ago, there were around 30 deer in the Bog and now they say there are only 4. Makes me wonder whether their figures were multiplyed on purpose so they could have a bow and arrow deer cull in there."

The other person said, "Well, you never know, but I should mention that about 2 months ago, I was in the Woodland Cemetary with my wife, visiting the grave of a relative. We heard dogs barking, and saw 2 dogs chasing some deer around in there." When I asked the cemetary keeper about it, he said, "Yeah, I don't know where the dogs came from, it's the first time I've seen them." Then the grounds keeper went on to say that he thought there were about 11 deer in the cemetary, and that they had made it their home for some time now.

After I overheard this, I got got to thinking about it again. My, how the more I listened, the more the plot seemed to thicken around the deer!

I was beginning to wonder whether or not someone was letting dogs loose to frighten and/or hurt the deer in the bog and other areas of the city as well, maybe. And I realized that after the dogs had done their hunting, they could be called back to the owner and no one would ever be the wiser, especially if the owner were to check and make sure no witnesses were around when the dirty deeds were carried out!

The one thing that that bothered me the most was this:

Might this be a worse scenerio than a potential coyote problem, especially if the dogs were WILD ones and not trained ones?

Is there anyone out there in cyperspace who knows the truth and willing to talk about it?

Last night I watched the movie - I Legend. What a scary scenerio. It made me think about how many wild dogs or coyotes it would take to bring that kind of scenerio here.

I figure nothing will be done about anything until someone gets badly mauled or killed somewhere in or around the city. Then the accusations and finger pointing will start flying, and maybe a lawsuit or two as well if somebody from the government is found responsible, for some reason or another.

My, My. How the plot does thicken. The following is a true story:

Today, I went to visit a friend of mine who lives on a farm on a concession between Mount Brydges and Delaware. (within a mile or two of Butch's place, as a matter of fact)

We got talking about the coyotes that might be in the Sifton Bog. That was when she told me a few things that really blew me away.

She said that she wouldn't let her kids out to play much anymore because of the wild dogs and coyotes that have been sighted near her house. She told me that just last week there were police helicopters circling the area and she heard they were looking for wild dogs and/or coyotes. Apparently they've been doing it for months and months now. If the helicopters spotted any wild dogs or coyotes, they were letting hunters in the area know where they were so they could hunt them down and shoot them.

She said just a couple of months ago a hunter came to her door and asked if they could hunt for wild dogs on her property and she gave them the go ahead to do so. She said she heard a few shots afterwards, but didn't think much of it at the time.

Then she told me this little nugget. She said no one would walk along the concession roads alone after dark because of the worry about being atttacked and hurt by the wild dogs and coyotes. She went on to say that 'somethng' was killing peoples pigs and chickens in the area as well! Why, just just the other day, in broad daylight, she said, she looked out her window and saw a pack of 3 dogs running along the concession road in front of her house. She said they sometimes run in packs of 20 or more when they come together when hunting a prey. Scary.

When I was leaving her, I asked her if she had something to protect the children when they were playing outside, like a baseball bat or gun. She said no, but she just doesn't let her kids out anymore so she doesn't have to worry about it, being that her 4 kids are all under the age of 8.

She said I don't know how they're going to get rid of this threat. The more they hunt them, the more there seems to be. Hmmm... Now, I wonder why that is?

Perhaps your 'I Legend scenerio' is not so farfetched afer all, Mindtwister.

We could use some HELP from the First Nations, if we haven't completely alienated them. They knew how to share the earth and live in harmony with Mother Nature.

Those so called wild dogs and coyotes are wolves.
Hungery homeless wolves. Oh maybe some of them are half-breed mutts, but they are wolves just the same as natives and mixed race immigrants are PEOPLE.

Many moons ago, this urbanized society took root along fur-trade lines. Sir Alexander Graham Bell set up his first telephones along the fur-trade lines. The underground railroad followed the fur-trade lines. White man replaced the booming economy of the furtrade with spun plastic polyester and pretty soon, though the supply was bountiful there was no demand for the product.

Stupid is as stupid does. Build your house along the trap lines and then ban hunting.
The Hudson-Bay Company can't get us out of this pickle.

The way I understand it Wild dogs are wild dogs.
    Coyotes are Coyotes
    Wolves are wolves

They are NOT all wolves. Wolves will mostly run from human contact.
Wild dogs and coyotes won't. Especially when they hunt in larger packs. Yes, there may be some interbreeding between some of them, but their numbers and the danger they may present to humans needs to be looked into quickly before someone gets badly hurt or killed. The problem certainly won't be solved by putting one's head in the sand over it.
