LONDON, ONTARIO, POLICE BEAT
Abraham Habash, 26 and Brandi Sandison, 27, busted on multiple counts of identity fraud
FOLLOWING A FOUR-MONTH INVESTIGATION by members of the London Police Service, Fraud Section, 26-year- old Abraham Habash has been arrested and charged with 15 criminal offences in relation to identity fraud, possession and use of credit card data and possession of property obtained by crime.
Twenty-seven-year-old Brandi Sandison has been charged with 11 criminal offences in relation to the same investigation.
Habash and Sandison were successful in defrauding local businesses out of more than $70,000.00 by making phone calls to businesses and providing stolen credit card numbers to purchase items including lumber, tires and flooring.
The store employees did not request to see the actual credit card, to confirm the numbers, when the items were delivered to addresses provided or picked up at the store by a third party.
In a number of cases the caller provided store clerks with a series of credit card numbers which were “declined” prior to providing one which was “accepted."
Business owners are reminded that most credit card agreements put the liability back on the business if the credit card is not presented to the clerk during the purchase.
